Cocktail Hour! Ginger Syrup and Bourbon

1.5 oz bourbon (1 shot)
1.5 oz soda water (1 shot)
splash of ginger syrup, to taste (recipe below)
1 lemon wedge or slice
garnish (lemon wedge, pear or apple slice)

Pour the bourbon, soda water and syrup into a rocks glass over ice. Squeeze lemon into the glass. Stir to combine. Garnish with a lemon wedge, pear slice or apple slice.

Homemade Ginger Syrup
makes enough for 12-15 drinks using the recipe above

1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c water
1/4 pound fresh ginger, peeled and grated

Combine the ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer for about 5 minutes. Let sit for about an hour. Strain the ginger, pressing down on the solids to squeeze out all of the fantastic flavor. Syrup will keep for a few weeks in the refrigerator, but I’d be surprised if it lasts that long!
